BRAPA AUGUST REVIEW / SEPTEMBER PREVIEW (2020)

Hello all!

August began with me leaning on a disused phonebox in a rural Surrey village .......

.... and it ended in a rather drab Antic in the Docklands ........

40 new GBG ticks for the month, and a couple of decent pre-emptives, following on from the 47 I did in July (plus 12 so far in September) means 99 since the pubs re-opened, I'm pretty pleased with that outcome.

I'd been focussing in on Cumbria, Tyne & Wear, Durham and (in a lazier way) Northumberland pre-lockdown, but it somehow makes sense to have been honing in on the South East since, I just feel it might be more reliable and easier to get around in terms of pubs opening and transport.

They are looking lovely & green .......

Ignore Dorking, Reigate and probably Whyteleafe, at least I tried

I've even remembered Hampshire & Kent are counties, and done a couple of pubs there .....

Well, it's a start!  Though I might have to quit my job and go on a year long pilgrimage if I'm to get Kent completed, ridiculous amount of pubbage to be done.

Here are five incredible pubs you would definitely enjoy .....

Royal George, Herhsam
Barley Mow, Shepperton
Eagle Ale House, Clapham Junction
Blythe Hill Tavern, Forest Hill
Roebuck, Hampton Hill

Barley Mow, Shepperton

There was a fair bit of dross as well, here are three pubs I didn't enjoy although in the case of the latter, it was probably unlucky circumstances 'on the day' as much as anything ......

Walton Village, Walton-on-Thames
Draft House Northcote, Clapham Junction
Greyhound, Charcott

Place of the month was Bromley, where I enjoyed a fantastic Friday evening before than bank holiday, a friendly vibrant town full of real-life people who welcomed me with open arms .....

Colin has a few too many at the Star & Garter, Bromley

Back home in York, the wonderful Fox continues to be my main 'go to' pub and have got into a nice routine of going once a week with Father BRAPA, as he's not able to go to Hull City home games, he needs an extra little outlet .....

And #PubMan of the month is Citra, who made his BRAPA debut on a great day around Croydon and Clapham Junction .......

September is already 13 days old, possibly more when you read this, so doing a 'preview' seems a tiny bit 'after the pub horse has bolted' kind of levels.

But with the football fixtures out, even with fans not allowed into grounds, I can give myself a bit more structure and base myself in the places close to where Hull City will be, more exciting now we are in League One is it gives me the opportunity to go to new places.

Upper Upnor, an 'exciting new place'

September would also see my long awaited return to North East ticking, I'll write about that Monday & Wednesday.  Then I'd overdo it in North Kent (today has been one of my worst hangovers in a long time!), with the 19th and 26th giving me more potential for southern trips.

I don't have any time off work in Sept so am half considering getting the 'midweek/Friday after work' BRAPA back on, but fear not as as October will see the kind of spike we can all enjoy, a spike in pub ticking activity.

I'm in absolutely no hurry for the 2021 GBG with its beautiful deep green cover, which I think is still due back end of October, but got plenty to go at in the 2020 Guide, lost 4 months, so personally, if it didn't come out til after Christmas I'd be perfectly content.  Having said that, it is falling apart now!

Keep on pubbing & have a good week, Si

  1. Yes, I'd be happy if GBG21 NEVER came out, and we just got on with GBG20. Any new entries will be pesky pokey micros, won't they ?

Delighted to note I edged you out this month (43) with 8 on that final Bank Holiday, but I still felt intensely jealous about your Surrey exploits.

That pic of Colin in the Star & Garter should be on the GBG21 cover.

    1. They will! Pesky AND pokey. Half of me is wondering if turnover won't be as high this year, but perhaps wishful thinking. Still, I've done a few nice preemptives I'm hoping will come good.

Oh you did well with 43 for Aug. I'm having a quiet September, but if I'm only Saturdaying and no time off work, it really is so difficult. Oct will be better.

Haha, I think all us tickers should have pics on front of GBG as a tribute to our love of the book ;)

    2. I want to thank Dr Emu a very powerful spell caster who help me to bring my husband back to me, few month ago i have a serious problem with my husband, to the extend that he left the house, and he started dating another woman and he stayed with the woman, i tried all i can to bring him back, but all my effort was useless until the day my friend came to my house and i told her every thing that had happened between me and my husband, then she told me of a powerful spell caster who help her when she was in the same problem I then contact Dr Emu and told him every thing and he told me not to worry my self again that my husband will come back to me after he has cast a spell on him, i thought it was a joke, after he had finish casting the spell, he told me that he had just finish casting the spell, to my greatest surprise within 48 hours, my husband really came back begging me to forgive him, if you need his help you can contact him with via email: Emutemple@gmail.com or add him up on his whatsapp +2347012841542 is willing to help any body that need his help.

  2. "I've even remembered Hampshire & Kent are counties, and done a couple of pubs there ....."

Who says education should revert to home schooling? ;)

"Though I might have to quit my job and go on a year long pilgrimage if I'm to get Kent completed"

I still remember that 1% of lottery winnings I promised; but I have to quantify that of up to 3,000,000 pounds. ;)

"where I enjoyed a fantastic Friday evening before than bank holiday,"

Not sure about that 'than' then. :)

"he needs an extra little outlet ....."

    Apart from your Mum's?
    (sorry, sorry!)

"And #PubMan of the month is Citra, who made his BRAPA debut on a great day around Croydon and Clapham Junction ......."

He's the spitting image of that Hasselhof cutout beside him. :)

"September is already 13 days old, possibly more when you read this,"

    Yep.

"Then I'd overdo it in North Kent (today has been one of my worst hangovers in a long time!)"

Blimey! And you've had 8 pint days!

"a spike in pub ticking activity."

Phew! I thought you were talking about a second wave!

"lost 4 months, so personally, if it didn't come out til after Christmas I'd be perfectly content."

They should bloody well take that into consideration!
    (harumph)

    Cheers!
